On the Move: A Capsule that takes you Far (Neptune + Personal Style)

Neptune Transits: Dressing the Dream

Neptune transits can feel…disorienting.

They are a tide of questions, insights, and answers. A significant Neptune transit is like a vision quest: something calls the soul to journey toward answers to questions you didn’t even know you had. You ride out with an idea of something greater, and you seek what you are looking for.

You may find yourself mentally and spiritually unmoored as Neptunian experiences disintegrate the bonds of internal suppressions, past conditioning, and spells cast by karma, self, or another. What was once defined blurs.

Neptune’s presence helps you transcend that which keeps you stuck. It breaks you free from the grips of your suffering. It restores your ability to dream. This whole life is a game of make-believe: what develops if you follow an inspiration? What appears when you take away your filters and allow all the light of your creative visions to penetrate your life?

Neptune’s travels through the chart can also paint illusions (not always a bad thing) and delusions (maybe a bad thing?) You may feel inspired to dive into something, and trust the currents of hope will carry you…until you don’t, and then, finally, find yourself caught up in the jetty, unable to escape the tide pool. Now what? This is why “Be delusional” is encouraged in entrepreneurial spaces. Manifest the impossible. Keep your eye on the dream. Think beyond the current reality. And, keep going even when things start to go sideways…

No matter where Neptune’s dance of tides takes you, you will see something new, and you will feel something you never felt before, and that in and of itself is a breakthrough. A mystery may be revealed. A new perspective may open up. An option you never knew existed appears. These revelations are often what lead to the disorientation, prompting questions like…

Where am I?

What is left of me?

Who am I now?

Neptune dissolves identity as much as it inspires it.

This is why practices with routine, consistency, commitment, and systems can be quite helpful during a Neptune transit, or when considering supportive actions to take for your natal Neptune placement. Maintain some semblance of ‘reality’ while also crystallizing visions.

Neptune & The Fantasy Self

In the realm of dressing, I believe there is a fine line between the practical and the fantasy. Who is to say you can’t dress like your fantasy self every day? Who is to say you can’t simply BE your fantasy self every day? If your life is yours to live…then dress it up anyway you want. Embody those Neptunian visions.

And yet — here is the paradox — Neptune manifests well within boundaries and constraints. (Over-indulgence can be a downside of Neptune.) How can restraint be exercised when shopping and dressing? Not to the point of self-deprivation, no, that will make the magic of your Neptune placement dissolve. But, how might intentional restraint benefit you? How do you spoil yourself enough but not too much so that your palette for what is special does not get lost?

Neptune & The Capsule Wardrobe

How does all of this Neptunian talk relate to the capsule wardrobe?

I’ll summarize: when more feels like less and less is more.

Neptune encourages the feeling of wanting more. The capsule wardrobe provides the structure to deliver that feeling – and reality.

A story:

Recently, I went shopping on TheRealReal for new wardrobe pieces now that I am in the TEXAS heat full time (my Dallas clients, I understand your woes!) Dresses have been on the shopping agenda for several months, and my eyes have been focused on a few pieces hanging out in the cart for weeks.

I happen to live in an exceptionally vibrant and colorful house in this new chapter of my life and that adds to my already existing desire to bring more eclectic pieces and jewel tones into my wardrobe (purple, green, and yellow in particular – oh yes, and Cheetah print. I’m with a guy who has 10+ panthers tattooed on his body. We’re into cats around here.) Therefore, when I shop, I seek out and sort my options by color.

Then, I’ll favorite a whole bunch of stuff, giving my fantasy self permission to run wild.

Next, I’ll refine my selection when placing items in the cart through a series of questions:

  • AM I REALLY GOING TO WEAR THIS? (Like, come on JT.)

  • DO I HAVE MULTIPLE PLACES/EXPERIENCES AHEAD TO WEAR THIS? (If no, I’m not getting it.)

  • DO I REALLY LIKE THIS OR AM BUYING IT BECAUSE IT IS PRACTICAL? (I tend to buy for function and discard pleasure.)

  • AM I BUYING THIS JUST BECAUSE IT’S LOW COST AND PRACTICAL? (I admit, I get sucked into the “but its so cheap and useful” trap even if I don’t find the piece all that visually appealing.)

  • IS THIS SOMETHING I STILL ACTUALLY WANT? (My tastes and needs are changing rapidly in this new chapter of life and I want to be in the flow of my future not my past)

  • DOES THIS FIT MY CURRENT REALITY AND THAT OF THE NEAR FUTURE? (See answer above.)

  • DOES THIS PIECE SERVE MY WORKING/TEACHING IN PERSON AND ONLINE? (Can I see myself wearing this item in front of a client, on a stage, or at an in-person gig? I want my clothes to be multi-functional – beyond date nights, working in the garden, and running around town like no one is looking.)

  • DO I HAVE A COMPARABLE PIECE THAT I WEAR A LOT? (Sometimes, I ask myself this question if my intention is to avoid duplicating pieces in the wardrobe. However, I also ask myself this question as a way to gauge what I really love in my wardrobe…what am I wearing the most…and will it benefit me to have some variety in that same silhouette?)

This three-step approach to buying helps me curate my cart down to the essentials. And yes, fantasy pieces can be part of the “essentials” collection. I make them part of mine.

Admittedly, I do have a difficult time stepping outside of my closet comfort zone. I’ll place items in the cart that are so wildly fun, sexy, and memorable, but inevitably take them out of the cart at checkout. I succumb to the practical. (Neptune, help me break free!)

During this particular online shopping trip, I cut my cart down by half – in both cost and item consumption – by refining what I wanted through multiple steps.

I kept the pair of zebra boots that are far outside of my comfort zone, but have been on my fashion wishlist since late last summer. The pair I bought has just the right combo of western flair, urban sophistication, and a heel I can walk in. Of course, we’ll see how they fit upon arrival and try-on.

Nearly everything else in the cart was a hue of yellow — from butter to banana. Yellow has been rocking my world lately, and it is a safer color for me to stretch and expand my aura within.

And to satisfy my practical self? I bought a sleeveless black dress that can be worn year-round with the right styling and a very inexpensive pair of black leather kitten heel sandals – a pair of shoes that I would not care much about should they get damaged or lost in luggage transit.

All of the pieces in this buy feel like they mix and match with one another and easily integrate with what I already own, and my want to have a manageable system of clothing rotation is satisfied. Additionally, the items speak to the fantasy version of myself that possesses sensuality and flair.

And so, in the capsule wardrobe where Neptune is honored, less is more, because Neptune does not require excess to manifest greatness.

It requires vision.

And visions are achieved through both the “delusional” commitment to intuitive knowing/desire and consistency in action. These are also the foundational blocks of your dream capsule wardrobe and an unforgettable style.
