Self-Portraiture
I began the practice of portraiture with myself, starting at age 15, when I painted and illustrated my face and figure for school projects. At 20, I put down the charcoal and instead worked as a model posing for other artists.
At age 31, after a five year hiatus of any personal art making, I decided to revisit the practice of portraiture when I realized I did not have many pictures of myself as an adult.
Over the years, self-portraiture became my anchor in a deep period of transition and healing. It has evolved into a space for play, experimentation, professional study, and self-expression. Today, it remains my creative and spiritual medicine. Below is a small selection from the thousands of portraits captured since that first day in December 2015.
