It has been such a pleasure and you are filled with so much passion for the craftsmanship you do. Thank you for taking me the way I am. Much appreciated.

Until today, I never acknowledged the true art of photography. People think you just push a button and boom....not the case. You captured a photo of my daughter that is the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen. It says so much. Look how powerful she looks and gorgeous at the same time...you made me cry seeing that. I thank you for this forever...
— The Dad of a Daughter
Thank you for being part of my journey... these portraits were taken a few months before I became pregnant with my daughter. It was the last time I did an epic road trip down through the south west states by myself... after leaving my marriage. This trip was really about honouring myself as an individual and processing the painful surrender of my “failed” marriage. It was about marrying myself again and remembering the beauty and magic I can create on my own. What I didn’t know is that this trip was my last hurrah as a single woman for the rest of my life. Now I have a daughter and I will forever be a mother. Even more grateful to these portraits that forever will remind me who I am and what life I bring to my own life. That is an eternal gift for both me and my girl.

I am fortunate to be *seen* by her—not just by her lens, but by her artist’s soul. I’ve got a session with her in 2022 and I can pretty much guarantee it’s going to be mind-blowing. it’s hard to see yourself—to truly know what you are. what are you? a woman, queer, disabled, a writer, Taiwanese American, a sweetheart, a person in love with the world? it’s all there in the image. look; it’s there.
— Esmé Wang
Your eye for transforming a room into magic is astounding. I’ve never felt so comfortable with my body, so, thank you for these. Knowing I’ll have these amazing, once-in-a-lifetime images is too valuable for words.
— Chikae Howland
I was thinking about the unfolding over these years since our first photo shoot in 2017 when I started my company. Back then, the photos were more reserved, a little less serious. And now, there’s a woman that stares back at me in the photos. She’s confident, and that allows her to be less guarded - more playful - connected - grateful. Thank you Jacquelyn for allowing me to witness the transformation. People may think a photo is just a photo, but it’s not. Not with you. You allow us to bear witness to the metamorphosis. Thank you 1 million times over!
— Nicole Hernandez
Thank you for your gift and allowing me to be me, raw and uncensored. Mad love, always.
— Courtney Ellzey
Jacqui took that of me two years ago and it completely changed my capacity for beingness and how I looked at myself. The life-changing magic that happened to me tonight was made possible by the gift of being able to see myself.I had gained a lot of weight, my body dysmorphia was a lot more virulent than it is now, and at the time was staying on a friend’s couch and felt like shit about myself. And here this incredibly talented visionary helped me see the person I carried around and protected in my heart for all that time, through all that trauma...in my own face. I saw her clear as fucking day. I’d never been photographed by a professional photographer that way before and I was terrified of being in front of a camera - I almost didn’t do it - but Jacqui made me feel so calm and beautiful, but in a way that’s not deeply dysfunctional and hierarchal as fuck. Like who I was was more than enough to be seen and witnessed, beautiful. If you can hire her, do. She’s worth every single penny and she is *well* on her way to being a legend and an icon of her craft.

Horse & Rider Sessions

Photographing the life of a cowgirl and her horse is an art that speaks to the deepest part of my heart. I am inspired by the grit and tenacity required to navigate life in the desert — be it by plant, animal or human — and the presence it asks from all who walk the terrain. You cannot walk with fear and weary in the desert and survive. Intuition and a respect for nature will help you persevere.

I am also inspired by the horse, a symbol of the “high ground” and desert, who teaches us the presence, leadership, and self-awareness skills needed to survive and thrive in the difficult landscape that is life.

Under my western brand On High Ground, I offer Horse & Rider photography sessions for cowgirls and cowboys inspired by the spirit of the horse and high ground.

FAQs

What is included in a session price?

1

All session pricing featured on this website includes your allotted session time, post-processing/editing services, and the specified number of digital images you will receive. All sessions can be customized to support your photo visions; therefore, travel time, location permits, location insurance, and on-set wardrobe styling fees may be additional depending on session needs. All final quotes will be agreed upon prior to shooting and include all fees upfront, including: travel, usage, session time, c.c. processing, and the number of images and print product received. Non-refundable deposits are required to hold all session slots and payment plans are available.

What is your process when working with a new client?

2

We begin our time together with a consultation call to discuss the needs of your shoot. Once your session is reserved with a date and deposit, we begin the process of discussing location details, visual inspiration, and styling your looks. After your shoot takes place, we review all photos from your session and select final images for editing and delivery in either a print or digital format.

Why should I hire you as my photographer?

3

Having been in this photo business for a decade now, I've had the opportunity to practice the craft of photography in a number of settings and genres including: the luxury wedding industry, personal branding for small businesses, high-end architectural photography, equestrian sports, and still-life work for product-based businesses. I can work in natural light and under studio lights. I’ve been on big editorial sets with celebrities and have worked one-to-one in people’s teeny, tiny kitchens. Practice, practice, and more practice – in all types of settings – is the best training one can have to master this art, and I never stop challenging myself.

Any advice for someone who feels uncomfortable in front of the camera?

4

The best portraits are made when everyone approaches the session with a playful and curious attitude. We start out with a conversation like old pals while I look for your natural way of posing, softly directing you into your best looks. This reduces stiffness in mind and body, and thus eliminates the cringe in traditional portrait photos. Also, it never hurts to practice your posing in front of a mirror when no one is looking. Determine how you want to look and feel in font of the camera for when it is time to shoot.

What types of people have you worked with before?

5

I have worked with kids, teens, adults, families, and seniors, and have gotten great pictures out of all of them! Not everyone can sit in front of the camera for an extended period of time. However, I primarily work with creative entrepreneurs, cowgirls, and anyone interested in creating timeless, documentary and editorial-style portraits that can be utilized for years to come. Let's put your best face forward.

What should I consider before booking a shoot?

6

• Make sure you hire someone who matches the STYLE of images you want. If you are looking for imagery that says confident, chic, cool, and editorial, come to me. If you are looking for bright and airy Pinterest vibes, I can make other recommendations.

• What is your purpose for taking these photos? Where will they be displayed? And, who is going to see them? Your answers help me prepare our shot list, your posing flow, and the best lighting to help tell your story and convey your personal vibe.
