I often think about the power of jewelry in a wardrobe.

For some wearers, jewelry is an afterthought. But for me, jewelry is the Hero piece of the whole ensemble. Jewelry makes a statement on even the most casual of outfits. Heck, jewelry doesn’t just make a statement for itself; it elevates the entire fit!

Jewelry has so much power, even a small piece can draw all attention away from something big like a bold and oversized coat (making the oversized coat the backdrop of the jewelry). But, jewelry should serve as the finishing touch, the ‘wow’ factor, to a garment that might not stand out nearly as much without being in partnership with the jewelry piece.

If you are a capsule wardrobe enthusiast like me, you can even keep clothing garments the same (as in a daily uniform), but completely change up the vibe of the look with a switcheroo of a bracelet, necklace, earring, or brooch. Allow your jewelry to be the star of the sartorial show.

I love how packable, interchangeable, and mobile jewelry can be too. Personally, I don’t like traveling with a lot of stuff. I barely like owning stuff. With jewelry, I can have variety without the volume. I can carry my jewelry on the plane or in my car within a small bag or purse, and I do not have to worry about it getting lost nearly as much as I worry about my suitcase ending up on the other side of the world.

Invest in a SET that will last you a lifetime. Make the set part of your signature look. The set itself can be your signature look.

I have two interchangeable sets of jewelry. Both sets are made from metal work (silver or brass), turquoise, and diamonds. The metals on my belts and purses match these sets so that all is interchangeable. All is a ‘go-to.’ No piece is left to collect dust in the drawer.

The spirit of jewelry can transport you. Change you. Shift the way the world sees you.

Jewelry can mesmerize, impress, connect, communicate, and get you into rooms. Wearing it can elevate your spirit and protect your emotional body. It is a bridge to conversation and shared curiosities. Have you ever met someone through an unexpected compliment about their jewelry or your jewelry? Jewelry is a storyteller, and it offers you something to tell stories about too.

When choosing jewelry for your wardrobe, follow your eyes. Follow your heart. Listen to the buzz (or lack there of) in your body when trying on a piece. Invest in what lights you up, what makes you feel polished, and what helps you shine the brightest.
