Daily Digs

I always appreciate a style influencer who shows up in their day-to-day clothes, and not just the costuming for a camera or the dress-up for a night on the town. It’s important to me that I do the same, because I want to demonstrate that personal style doesn’t have to be fussy, formal, and performative. It can be simple and casual too.

And while I can put an outfit together with any wardrobe, from any brand, for any one-off occasion, it’s in the day-to-day when the most authentic style emerges (even if that day-to-day is taking the stage at a concert). What are the silhouettes and garments you routinely reach for first? What are your go-to’s? These pieces shape the personal style.

For me, this looks like a uniform of jeans, boots, tank or T, belt, and a blazer-like sweater or jacket. I usually leave the hat at home when working, but I will wear a version of a cowboy hat in the garden, while slow-hiking a trail, or out camping. The wider brim offers extended shade that I don’t get from a baseball cap.

In this carousel, I present a series of looks that follow this uniform guideline and that are easily switched up for multiple variations to wear throughout the week. While I tend to wear black, taupe/sand, and white most often, this uniform can be worked with a palette of color. Replace the black with green. Replace the denim with yellow. Rotate the colors.

Lastly, style develops in the doing. Put the clothes on. Mix and match unusual combinations. Get dressed in a piece that feels outside of your comfort zone. Experiment. Even if the looks feel awful, at least you know what you don’t like; that information will get you closer to knowing what you do like. The best personal style arrives in the process of dressing.
