Taurus/Scorpio Axis of Investment
On May 15th/16th 2022, the Lunar Eclipse at 25* Scorpio occurs at 12:14AM Eastern/9:14pm Pacific.
In love and style, Scorpio remains loyal to its favorite brands and people. Once this star-sign feels comfortable enough to put that defensive stinger away it invests it’s whole being into a relationship. I’ve actually heard a few Venus in Scorpio peeps say they wish they could crawl inside their lovers.
Since Scorpio runs on the axis of investment with it’s opposite Taurus (who invests in the material, pleasure, sensory experiences), I want to talk with you about investment pieces for your wardrobe.
Within these Style Briefs over the past year, we have explored the building of dream looks, general looks, and foundational looks, but we haven’t talked about how to navigate those one-off investment pieces.
Investments pieces are those pieces of the wardrobe constructed with quality materials and skills and designed to serve you for a lengthy period of time.
Sometimes, but not always, investment pieces are more expensive than other garments in the wardrobe.
Investment pieces can be quiet and/or make a very loud statement.
An entire wardrobe can be anchored in one (or a handful of) investment piece(s).
Investment pieces can serve as compliments to and finishing pieces for the rest of the wardrobe.
It is essential that you define what “investment” means within your life and wardrobe because that viewpoint will inform the emotions around your buying decisions and purchases.
Invest in what will support you in feeling good about the how, where and in what you place your financial resources and emotional energy.
For me, investment pieces offer the above listed and they hold a story or memory that honors my life journey. All of my investment pieces were purchased at a time when I celebrated a special moment or experienced a significant period of growth and change. Exchanging money and energy for something that signifies a special moment is just as valuable to me as investing in a piece that offers a good resale price or rounds out my collection.
Sometimes, we will “invest” in a piece and question or regret that decision later. That’s OK. Sometimes, we don’t know what we really want until we have what we think we want. Thankfully, there is a strong secondary market for clothing.
In my wardrobe, I invest in jackets, purses and unique pieces of jewelry — those are the garments I value the most. Fashion evolves, and so do I. Therefore, placing energy into tops/bottoms/dresses and shoes is not as important to me. My jackets, on the other hand, can cloak me for decades. They are timeless in texture and cut. My Cancer Moon feels cozy and powerful within them. I love my coats!
I was thinking about what my favorite investment pieces are within my wardrobe. Below, are some quick snaps of pieces I have owned the longest and have used the most.
The first image is of a blue-green distressed leather jacket. This piece was a major investment at the time but it is the most-worn piece in my wardrobe (other than my fur-lined winter coat). I encourage having a leather or denim jacket in any wardrobe and especially a capsule wardrobe. Denim and leather are never out of style and can be paired with casual and dress-up looks.
The second image is of my favorite non-jewelry accessory: a designer scarf. I love the pattern on this scarf, and it jazzes up any casual or monochromatic outfit. I have also worn this scarf in the desert to stay cool and in the airport to stay warm. Sometimes, I tie it onto a purse for extra pizazz. This scarf has longevity.
The third image is of one of my first designer hand-bags. I have acquired and sold many designer handbags over the past ten + years. The handbags I have held onto are those made of timeless, heritage-style fabrics that age well under stress, are in Nature’s color palette (black/sand/olive/brown), and do not have patterns and logos that scream “this is from XXXX year.” I believe in owning at least one nice tote bag/purse/carryall that can go with professional, casual and travel looks.
When I think about what I might invest in next, I ask myself the following:
Can I see myself wearing this piece with confidence in 10 years?
Is this piece trendy or timeless?
If I decide to sell this piece, how much money will I receive?
Can I resell this piece easily?
Does this piece make me feel like I am living the life I imagine for my future self?
Do I currently own anything similar to this piece?
How is this piece in relationship with the rest of my wardrobe?
Do I feel on top of the world in this piece?!!
Feel free to use these questions as prompts or guidelines for your own investment checklist.
