Style in the Age of Aquarius
Cue the wiry, sinuous techno beat.
It’s Aquarius Season.
A futuristic time and space of exaggerated proportion play, androgyny and the surreal.
Some folks might perceive the Aquarian vibe as alternative and weird…but can I offer a different perspective?
Innovative.
Aquarius IS the trend-setter, light years ahead in their visioning. They feel not through the body, but in the mind’s eye and energetic field. And stylistically, this Waterbearer pours it’s fashion focus into the Sci-fye, blends of reality + fiction and playtime in the metaverse*.
But that’s not all we see from this sign (yes, there is depth behind that detached and friendly smile)…
The Aquarian style can also flow toward a sweet and sugary, girl next door meets high gloss glamour. (I know, this is a far-out combination, but Aquarius isn’t one for boxes.)
If there was a time period in pop-culture that bests represents Aquarius, I say it’s Y2K ~ give or take a few years ~ when metallics, spiked hair, Juicy Tube Lip Gloss and transparent, ethereal fabrics were so in.
Alongside rebellion.
Aquarius wants freedom and the space to express, and the fashion of that time was a reflection of the break away from heavy 90’s grunge.
In Y2K, being an “air” head was a most favorite accessory. So were sidekicks (the hottest social technology). #lovesit
This is probably why we see billowy fabrics in Aquarian garment design as much as strong, daring lines. On the surface, Aquarius may seem distant (thanks to that air element), but the sign is deep and sensitive. Remember, Aquarius progresses to the dreamy energy of Pisces.
And the “rebellious” style of Aquarius is not abrasive and intense (like we might experience with a fire sign such as Aries) …there is a common cause, a likability, a let’s-all-get-along-and-thrive vibe behind the boundary testing and pushing of limits.
Lastly, a palette of black and white dominate the Aquarian capsule as a manifestation of the mysterious, misty air and deep water elements.
But do not underestimate the surprises from this corner of the sky — splashes of soft pink, fire engine red and vibrant yellow round out this sign of eternal youth!
*Saturn (a sculptor) is in the sign of Aquarius (new frontiers, the collective, community organization) right now with the planetary ruler of Aquarius (Uranus) in the sign of Taurus (the material, the senses, the physical). We are coming into new definitions of “land”, “land ownership” and “ownership” in an alternate reality. I’m excited to see how fashion develops in this new space.
