Libra-Ruled Items Every Wardrobe Needs

With Venus as the planetary ruler of our lovely Libra this season, we are encouraged to get cozy with ALL feelings that come with being in relationship, partnership and reciprocity.

In the 7th house where Libra resides attention shifts from the me, me, me of personal development in the first six houses to how we relate to and integrate into society in the next six. Houses 7-12 explore how one is in relationship with others and the world.

We now enter a space where desires and yearnings are reflected back to us. Because Libra season is all about balance, refinement and the meeting point between opposites, we are asked to explore the process of choice* and the weight/balance of results and consequences.

It’s no wonder then that Libra rules the senses (and in particular that of the olfactory and clairsalience) as we have now entered intuitive territory. Want to know how you really feel about something? Just ask the body.

(Libra governs the veins and the tummy. Think about how these parts of the body react when in/out of stress.

Libra also rules bedrooms and dressing rooms, interior decor, painting and poetry, social settings and wardrobe. Beauty and romance drive decision making. As Lord of the courthouse, Libra makes a great pitch for weddings…but won’t shy away from divorce either.

And so, this all got me thinking…if Libra was an outfit in the wardrobe what would that outfit be?

I don’t know, there are too many! I can’t decide…

Ok, ok then, here are three.

And, they are sure to bring balance to the wardrobe. :)

1. WEDDING GUEST ATTIRE - Consider owning at least one outfit or garment that can be worn to attend a wedding (be that at the courthouse, in a backyard or under the ballroom lights.)

My suggestion is a slip dress, sheath** dress or suit as all can be dressed up and dressed down. Add a cashmere sweater (to the dress) and a broach (to the sweater or a blazer/jacket) for some classy sparkle. Add sex appeal with a strappy sandal. Create a casual vibe with a low-heel bootie. Opt for a neutral color/palette (like cream or black) or a berry or a green to take you through all four seasons. Your jewelry and accessories will set the tone for your outfit.

2. COURTROOM ENSEMBLE - Assume that judge-ments are being made. What do you want to say and what impression do you want to make through the story of your outfit?

If wardrobe minimalism is your jam (whether intentional or not) pieces from the courtroom ensemble and wedding guest attire can be mixed…maybe you wear the same sheath dress in both situations but switch out the accessories and layering pieces. Or, you have one tailored pair of pants partnered with a button-down for modest spaces and a sequin corset top for cocktail hour and the club.

3. UNDERGARMENTS FOR STRUCTURE - My only advice here is to wear what feels supportive to YOU. What you choose to add to your collection will also be dependent on what you like to wear and how you like to wear it.

I cannot stand undergarments that restrict my body, result in back pain and give me a hassle when I need to use the bathroom! You’ll never catch me in a pair of Spanx. Strapless bras drive me bananas. And, I don’t invest in fancy underwear because I am afraid it will get ruined! So, I opt for bras that are built-in or soft and seamless and/or have a slight layer of padding with a plain, adjustable strap. My underwear is sporty because comfort and mobility are my priorities, not frills.

**The sheath dress is so versatile and time-easy. I personally have a sleeveless, black, knee-length, J.Crew dress in a lightweight crinkle wool blend that I have worn to a funeral, graduation, fancy dinner….and (hopefully never) a courtroom. I change the look of the dress by switching out my stockings, sweaters, boleros, cropped jackets, scarves, jewelry, shoes…
