Scorpio and the Alter Ego
In the previous post, we learned Scorpios make great detectives and assassins. I’m guessing it’s because of their natural ability to operate in secret, carry secrets and get others to spill theirs….
From what I’ve heard, undercover cops have a strong presence of Scorpio in their natal charts. I’m not surprised.
#secrets.
And also, #transformation.
Scorpio isn’t afraid of the dark nor of the transformative process that occurs when shape-shifting and evolving into another form. As a hidden agent, Scorpio uncovers the secrets of others, but can also get lost in the camouflage of a new self.
Altered egos and personas can bring forth positive and nefarious energy, and ruled by both Mars — the planet of fire and aggression — and Pluto — the earth cracking, demolition foreman) Scorpio can self-destruct in ways that are purposeful and intentional and impulsive and depressing.
The sign of Scorpio is represented by three symbols or stages: the Scorpion (the first stage of being; defensive; reactive; self-protective; limited perspective), the Eagle (the next and redeemed stage of being; seeing the bigger picture; intense/narrow focus) and the Phoenix (the highest stage of being; free from the lower vibrations of ego).
With intentional and self-aware transformation, Scorpio energy can emerge from the fire enlightened and empowered. (Which is what we are going to focus on today through the development of an alter ego or alternative persona.)
Costume, character and identity-play can be used as methods of survival, healing, confidence building, transformation and discovery. Crafting a new look allows one to try-on and embody an energy while offering distance from fear and an old way of being. (Hence why wigs, haircuts, hats, plastic surgery, makeup and jewelry adornment are such powerful, magical tools in manifesting and directing energy.) Creating an alter-ego is like casting a spell — on oneself as much as on others.
Is this how con-artists are able to manipulate so well?!
Often, when I meet with portrait clients, I ask them who they want to be in their photographs, what story do they want to tell and to describe that energy. We then give life to that story through the styling.
The ‘right’ clothes can make you feel like a million bucks — and lead others to believe you have it too. (Hello rise of the Influencer!)
But let’s say you want to wield energy just for you and not trick anyone in the process. Your intention is to step into the next level of your business OR just have more motivation for the day.
Get dressed.
Allow your intuition to guide you to fabrics, colors and styles that excite. Release judgment and try something on that feels new and/or different. Give yourself permission to go outside the boundaries of what you ‘know’. Experiment. Play pretend. View this new outfit as a costume.
How does wearing this costume alter your energy, your attitude, your viewpoints? What is your new superpower?
Since this week ends with Halloween, why not give a nod to the wisdom of Scorpio — and your inner self. Instead of dressing up in a disguise to hide, dress up in the most vivid version of yourself.
Show the world your altered-ego!
